A Parable of Two Trees

It is definitely flip-flop weather here as the rainy season is in full swing.
To make matters more challenging, there are several construction projects
in progress around campus.

Not real pretty.

But there, next to a science building being erected, stand two trees
doing exactly what God designed them to do... bloom!

Among the scaffolding, equipment, and mud, two Golden Shower Trees
stand side-by-side in a small patch of grass that has not been chewed up by all the construction.

These trees actually prefer dry or well-drained soil
and yet, despite the difficult conditions, they continue
to be a testimony of their Creator.

Known for their hard and durable wood, the Golden Shower Trees
reminded me this week how important it is
To stand as a brilliant testimony
despite conditions that are really not to our liking;
To be a reflection of the One who made us
in a place that isn't real pretty;
To stand for truth in a world that hardly knows
the meaning of that word anymore.

You are the light of the world.
A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket,
but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matt 5:14–16

  1. The verse you included is appropriate--the trees look as if they are glowing with golden light.
