the Sweetness of Friends

Six months ago God led us to our temporary housing
while we prepare for our ministry in Utah.
We landed in a country town in Georgia,
renting from a delightful country couple;
Charles and Teresa.

Their bit of land and a few farm animals has given us a place
of refreshment after eleven years of intense ministry in Miami.

Here we have learned many things about gardening,
goats, hens, and the simple country life.

We have learned Charles and Teresa love God,
love to serve, and love missions.

We have strengthened our friendship around shelling peas,
Sunday lunches, and walks in the park.

We have enjoyed a picnic near the lake,
played with their grandchildren,

and shared laughter and s'mores in the back yard.

One day we will have to leave this haven
and dig back into city-life and intense ministry,
but we will not go without knowing that
Ointment and perfume delight the heart,
And the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel.
Proverbs 27:9

Thank God for good friends!

  1. Ahhh, the simple country life--that has always been my "dream" of the ideal life. God has not seen fit to grant me this wish, but I cherish a fond hope that maybe I'll have my beautiful but simple log home in the country in my forever Home someday!

  2. I am so glad that the Lord has granted you a RESPITE from the hectic city life for this season of waiting to begin your new ministry out west. I pray often that you both will be RENEWED and REFRESHED. . . and REALLY READY for your next challenge when the time comes.
